We meet 7–10pm on the first Wednesday of every month, at a bar in downtown Manhattan with food with vegan and GF options, and a good selection of both alcoholic and NA drinks.

👋🏻 Hi! I'm Jess Haskins (she/her). I'm an editor, narrative designer, and educator, as well as a community organizer for the NYC game dev scene. I've been hosting the NYC Indie Games socials since 2013.

NYC Indie Games was originally a Facebook group founded in 2011. It was created and run from Muse Games, where I worked at the time, and the earliest events were game and playtest nights at the Muse offices.
The group was used mainly to announce the monthly socials that Dave Gilbert of Wadjet Eye Games used to host for the IGDA NYC chapter at No Idea Bar. When Dave got too busy to keep it up, I became a group admin and took over hosting the socials in 2013. Our first location was Loki Lounge in Park Slope, and we cycled through several spots in Brooklyn and lower Manhattan over the years. (Who remembers taking the ferry to Greenpoint? ✋🏻)
We held a few virtual events on Gather early in the pandemic, then went on a year-long hiatus. In-person, outdoor socials resumed in August 2022.
By 2021, the group boasted almost 2,000 members—although that audience was largely unreachable without paying Facebook for promotional boosts 🤮. With the blessing of my fellow admins, I deleted the Facebook group and moved operations to this website and email newsletter.
